SOUTH BEND - One of God's angels, Porzia Lorena Micou, precious to all who knew her, peacefully and bravely transitioned from this life into Glory on November 1, 2017 at the University of Chicago Hospital surrounded in love by her dear family and friends. Porzia was the daughter of Bernita “Bitsy” Johnson and Londale Micou. She was born on June 4, 1983 in Merriville, Indiana. Porzia was the mother of two kind, intelligent and beautiful daughters, Anika and Alyssa. Porzia adored her girls and they were her pride and joy.

Porzia's life purpose and greatest work was to nurture and educate children of all walks of life. She was also a women's activist, mentor, and advocate for fellow cancer warriors. She was loved by many and she never met a stranger.

Porzia was raised in South Bend, Indiana. Our daughter, sister, mother and aunt began her formal education through the South Bend Community School Corporation. She attended Benjamin Harrison Elementary, Navarre Middle School and John Adams High School. Porzia also attended Vincennes University, Holy Cross College and completed her certification in Montessori Education at Indiana University of South Bend. She excelled as a teacher and mentor to many children at the Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes and Center for the Homeless where she transformed the early childhood program. She taught by example, led effortlessly and provided guidance to her students and parents with her gracious loving spirit.

Porzia was truly a gift from God to her family and the community she served. Porzia was a brave soldier in her battle with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and wanted all women to fight and to be an advocate for early detection. She displayed a determined spirit with God, her family, and unceasing prayer for a medical cure.

Porzia met the love of her life and fiance, Addam Franklin who lovingly stood by her side to the end. Porzia will truly be missed by her parents, Bernita “Bitsy” Johnson of South Bend, Indiana and Londale Micou of Dallas, Texas; her two loving and caring daughters, Anika and Alyssa whom she treasured and loved with all of her heart; soul sisters, Amika Micou, Laurance and Maya Osun, Breana Micou, Sasha Micou, Qiawni Micou, and Shakeela (Howard) Micou-Beasley; brothers, Jason Micou and Corin Micou; paternal grandparents, Henry and Sophie Micou of Lewisburg, Tennessee; aunts, Charles and Marcella Lottie of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Carol Micou-Anderson of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Minnie “Peaches” Williams and Brenda Gregory of Atlanta, Georgia; uncles, Cornelius (Bud) Johnson, Jr. of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Carlos Johnson, Dennis (Traci) Johnson, Kenneth (GiGi) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Todd and Leticia Johnson, Jerry and Dora Woodard of Calumet City, Illinois, Elder Cordale and Alesa Micou of Jackson, Tennessee; maternal great-grandmother, Sarah Snow-Johnson; special mother-in-law, Renee Franklin of Chicago, Illinois along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and god-parents, Archie and Joanne Donaldson.
