Janet Shipley (Hooten)

Janet Faith Hooten, 66 years old, passed away at 6:26 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Jan was born on August 23, 1955 in Mishawaka and has been a lifelong resident.  On January 25, 1975 in South Bend, Jan and Dennis L. Hooten were united in marriage.

Along with Dennis, her loving husband of 47 years, she is survived by their three children, Heather M. (Eric) Stutzman of Middlebury, Adam L. (Dana) Hooten of North Liberty, and Derek A. (Jill) Hooten of LaPorte; and twelve grandchildren, Cabralin (Jake Kehoe) Hooten, Hannah (Caleb Cole) Stutzman, Analiese Hooten, Ethan Stutzman, Skylar Hooten, Thane Stutzman, Mia Hooten, Olivia Stutzman, Trevor Hooten, Eli Hooten, Reece Hooten, and Camden Hooten.  She is also survived by her mother, Dolores Shipley of Danville, KY; sister, Cindy Arnett of Danville, KY; and two brothers, Bob Shipley of Plymouth and Jack (Nadja) Shipley, Jr. of Danville, KY.  She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Shipley, Sr.

Jan was proud to be a registered nurse. During her nursing career she worked at the three major hospitals in the area. She also worked as a Clinical Manager at Asera Care Hospice and as a Clinical Director at St. Joseph VNA. Jan spent time as a traveling nurse and was named the 2011 “Travel Nurse of the Year” by Healthcare Traveler magazine. She was a member of the Board of Trustees for Greene Township and also participated in Sit & Sew, with other friends in the area that were just as passionate about quilting as she was. She enjoyed spending time with Denny at the family cabin in Pennsylvania located in the Allegheny National Forest where her favorite thing to do was sit in the swing by the creek and watch the water peacefully go by. Jan also liked to spend time I her gardens, canning in the kitchen and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.  Pastor Fred Youngen will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Friends may also visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Janet Faith Hooten may be donated to Asera Care Hospice, 5405 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, IN  46545. Contributions should be made payable to "Amedisys". Online condolences may be offered to the Hooten family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
