VANDALIA - Betty Lou Lawson, 80, of Vandalia, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Williamsville, Michigan, on October 23, 1930, to Homer and Glendora (Vaughn) Evans.

She married Charles Wendell Stewart Sr., who preceded her in death in August, 1987. She married David Lawson, who survives.

Betty Lou confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and she devoted her life to serving God, who was the head of her life.

She was valedictorian of her class at Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana.

She was a homemaker as well as having worked at both Adams and Westlake and Bivouac. She was a member of the National Breast Cancer Society, the Ladies' Auxiliary of the William E. Lozier Post #10704, Cassopolis, the Children's Foundation and First Baptist Church, Vandalia.

Mrs. Lawson is survived by her husband, David Lawson of Vandalia; one daughter, Wendy Lou Stewart of Kalamazoo; and one son, Lionel Stewart of Cassopolis; one daughter-in-law, Beth Stewart, South Bend, Indiana; three stepsons, Michael (Jan) Lawson, Orlando, Florida, Boyd Lawson, Virginia, and Ricky Lawson, Dowagiac; granddaughters, NaDonna Lynne (Jermaine) Taylor, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Marchelle Stewart Watt, South Bend, Indiana, Jaime (Patrick) Bance, Gurnee, Illinois; grandson, Charles Wendell Stewart III, Cassopolis; great-grandchildren, NaChelle Harris, Paige Taylor, Jermaine Taylor II, Cameryn Watt, Taylor Marion, Carli Bance, Drew Bance and Justin Taylor; brothers, Anthony (Sue) Evans, Vandalia, Bertrand (Sheila) Evans, Cassopolis, Yvonne (Marilyn) Evans, Vandalia, and Richard Evans, Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two sons, Nathaniel Lee Stewart and Charles Wendell Stewart Jr.; two sisters, Marjorie Evans Green and Leona Evans Brown; and one brother, Hilbert Evans.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, August 12, 2011, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Apostle Christopher Pittman and the Reverends Michael Anderson and Martha Cooper. Interment will follow at Bogue Street Memorial Garden, Vandalia.
