Margaret Irene Smith Vardaman

Margaret Irene (Smith) Vardaman, Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center, Marion, passed to her heavenly home surrounded by her family on May 12, 2019.

She married Robert E. Vardaman on March 12, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana. Rev. Vardaman accepted his first pastoral charge in 1949. Together, they served Wesleyan Churches in Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee, and Missouri for 53 years.

Mrs. Vardaman graduated from John Adams High School, South Bend, and attended Indiana Wesleyan University. She was a woman of prayer and had a great heart for people. She also was a wonderful hostess, gifted seamstress, and talented home decorator. She was a faithful member of College Wesleyan Church.

She is survived by her sons: Robert A. (Suzanne) and David (Kay), both from Marion, and Thomas (Lisa), Fairlawn Heights, IL; daughter, Paula (Jeff) Luttrell, Marion; eight grandchildren: Aimee (Alan) Williams, Milovice, Czech Republic; Emily Gray, Marion; Carin (Matthew) Hines, Fishers; Adam Vardaman (Kristen Hill), Boise, ID; Jeremy (Angela) Vardaman and Robert (Ashlyn) Luttrell, both from Marion; Cynthia (TJ) Swanson, Nashville, TN; and Wesley Luttrell, Marion; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Damaris (Vardaman) Holloway, Noblesville, IN; as well as 11 nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care afforded by the staff of Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center and the staff of Family LifeCare.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at College Wesleyan Church, 200 E. 38th St., Marion.

A celebration service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the church with Rev. Alex Mandura and Dr. Norman Wilson officiating.
