Michael J. "Spike" Miller, Sr.

Family and friends mourn the death and celebrate the life of Michael “Spike” Miller, Sr. who passed away on February 18, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Born in Michigan City, IN, Mike and his family moved to South Bend when he was just one year old. Growing up in South Bend, Mike attended St Joseph Grade School and John Adams High School. It was in the Spring of 1978 when he met the love of his life, Kimberly, his wife and companion for the next 46 years. They were blessed with two sons, Jerry & Michael Jr.

During his 30+ years in construction, Mike was foreman on some of the largest projects on Notre Dame Campus, including the Stadium Expansion Project. After retiring from the trades, he served as a safety inspector on the Eddy Street Commons project. He loved walking his dog, stopping to visit with neighbors and watching old movies.

Those who have had the pleasure of knowing him or working for him will remember him as a kind, fair and selfless man who always put his family and friends first.

Mike is survived by his wife and two sons; his father, Jerry Miller; his brother, Robert (Bob) Miller; and his beloved dog, Rex, all of South Bend. He is also survived by his sister, Terri (Drew) John of Collegeville, PA; and four nieces and nephews, Nicole Miller, Andrew and Matthew John, and Alexandria Czar.   

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Miller; and sister, Beth Ann.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Saturday, February 24, 2024 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor Street, South Bend, IN 46601. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to mass on Saturday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
