Dr. Dwayne D. Young

Dr. Dwayne D. Young, 67, of Webster Groves, MO passed away after a car accident in upstate New York on October 23, 2022. He leaves his wife of 38 years, Paula (Gember) Young; daughters, Lauren Young and Kelsey Young; and son, Brian Young; as well as his sister, Marilyn Scheu and her family; and many other dear family and friends.

Dwayne was committed to being of service to others—as a medical provider, soldier, professor, civil servant and as husband, father, brother and son. Raised in South Bend, he became an optometrist, earning his O.D. in 1980 from Indiana University. He relocated to St. Louis, MO in 1984 for a job at the VA Medical Center, where he worked for 33 years before retiring in 2017. Dwayne continued to practice as a professor at the School of Optometry, UMSL, supervising students at the Affinia community clinic.

Dwayne served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves for nearly 22 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2011. He was actively involved with multiple optometric associations and amateur radio clubs, and volunteered in 27 elections and previously with the Webster Groves School District Foundation.

Services: Kutis Funeral Home South County, Nov 15—Visitation at 10:30am; Service at 12:00pm—followed by a military burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
