CARL "RON" YOUNGQUIST

Carl R. "Ron" Youngquist May 17, 1935 - June 4, 2015 ELKHART - Carl R. "Ron" Youngquist, 80, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away Thursday evening at his residence. Ron, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in South Bend on May 17, 1935, to the late Arvid and Antoinette (Fear) Young-quist.

In addition to his parents, a sister, Vivian Jean Youngquist, and a brother, Gerald Fear, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his three daughters, Teri Showalter and husband Ken of LaPorte, Traci Metcalf and husband Brent of Shipshewana, and Tammi Youngquist of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren whom he adored, Michael Frost, Matthew Frost, Patrick Metcalf and wife Jess, Kevin Metcalf, Sydney Sommer, Samuel Showalter, Kenneth Showalter Jr., Jacob Showalter and Michael Showalter; two great- grandchildren, Lilian Hunter and Brogan Metcalf; and his former wife, Lee Ann Frost.

Ron graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend. He attended Ball State University, and served in the United States Army in Germany from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959. Ron had a long and successful career in the banking and finance industry. He worked for many years at First National Bank, which became Ameritrust, from which he retired. Ron then founded and was President of Homestead Finance Corporation in Elkhart; he retired from there.

Ron was very active in the community, with many interests and memberships including Elkhart Lions Club, Indiana Historical Society, Past President of the IMHA (Indiana Manufacturing Housing Association), and Four Lakes Country Club. Ron was a history and Civil War buff. He enjoyed fishing, Harry Potter, and was an avid golfer. Ron also rooted for the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Notre Dame.

A gathering of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The evening will conclude with the folding and presenting of the U.S. flag and the playing of Taps by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard. In honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.
