Harold David Markward, June 27, 1931 – December 14, 2021.

Harold, beloved husband and father was born in South Bend, Indiana to the late Medard and Matilda (Krietemeyer) Markward. Harold departed this life peacefully on Tuesday at the age of 90 in Savannah, GA. He previously resided in Melbourne Beach, FL since 1997. He remained independent, adventurous and always willing to teach others.

Harold married Patricia Ann Ford on August 9, 1952 who preceded him in death (2012). Patricia and Harold were entrepreneurs their ventures included Maplewood Apartments, Arrow Electric, Granger Electric, Granger Guns and the Granger Plaza. Harold initially began his career working at the Bendix Company and then while attending night school and working with Koontz Wagner, earned his Journeyman Electrical Cards. He and Patricia became self-employed in 1960 when starting Arrow Electric (electrical contracting). Harold’s first project was rewiring a laundromat earning him $1000. He remained in the commercial electrical field for over 36 years specializing in traffic signals and large jobs such as the Michiana Airport and ended his career specializing in heating/air conditioning and buying and selling guns. He loved his work and continued wiring and teaching his children and grandchildren how to wire, weld and repair broken items into working, sellable items. Most of all, Harold taught his children how to problem-solve and think.

Harold’s hobbies included obtaining his private pilot license with an instrumentation rating, flying his Cessna 210, hunting, fishing, photography and riding his Harley Motorcycle until over 80 years of age. Harold especially loved taking his children on adventures including snowmobiling, water and snow skiing and airplane rides. In his later years, Harold, embraced computer and smartphone technology and enjoyed buying and selling online and investing in online trading.

Harold and Patricia and their five children relocated to Niles, MI (Milton Township) from South Bend, IN in 1972. Harold and Patricia displayed their love of people by creating a food bank which provided low- cost food to residents of Milton Township. This venture created unity and long-term friendships with the community. Harold and Patricia’s five children include Robert David Markward, who preceded him in death (1989), Cindy (Ray) Johnson (IN), Judy (Phil) Palmer (CO), Steve (Sue) Markward (OH) and James (Donna) Markward (GA). Harold is survived and loved by his grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Humphries (TX), Nicholas (Caroline) Johnson (OH), Brittany (Jonathon) Clark (OH), Ryan (Gianna Stoleru) Markward (MD), David Palmer, Heidi Palmer (CO), Brigdon Markward (NV), Elise Markward (Alec) Davey (CA), Jacob Markward (GA), Avery Markward (GA); and three great grandchildren Nicholas R. Humphries, Andrew J. Humphries (TX) and Thomas A. Clark (OH).

Harold was the youngest of five children all of which preceded him in death. He will be dearly missed but his memories will live on in his children, grandchildren, family and friends
