MISHAWAKA - Owen D. Helm, 64, of W. 6th St., passed away at 12:45 p.m. Friday, at St. Joseph's Medical Center of South Bend, after an extended illness.
Mr. Helm was born on Sept. 3, 1932, in South Bend, Ind. and was a lifelong area resident.
On June 17, 1978, in South Bend, he married Thelma Hufkens.
She survives along with a daughter, Laura Web of South Bend; two stepdaughters, Anna M. Stout of South Bend and Ronna E. Wolfe, of Mishawaka; four stepsons, Wayne C. Hufkens, Maurice D. Hufkens, Charles E. Hufkens and Peter A. Hufkens, all of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Laruth Donnethan of South Bend and Glenda Melton of Bradenton, Fla.
Mr. Helm was employed by Sollitt Construction of South Bend and retired from Reinke Construction in 1991.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Paul Le Brun CSC officiating. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 of Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Hahn Funeral Home.
Mr. Helm was a member of International Labor Union of North America Local 645.
