Robert G. Hatch, 86, residing in South Bend, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at Sanctuary of Holy Cross. He was born April 7, 1926 in South Bend, a son of William & Caroline (Turin) Hatch, and has lived in this area most of his life.

On May 19, 1953 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth L. "Betty" Newton. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty of fifty-nine years. Also surviving are a step-son, William N. (Constance) Butler of South Bend ; grandson, Thomas (Tamara) Butler, of Elkhart, IN; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Andrew & Abigail Butler; a sister, Suzie Crist of Woodsfield, OH; two brothers, Hugh Thomas (Billie) Hatch of San Marcas, CA, and Michael (Martha) Hatch of Goshen; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hatch of Oxnard, CA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Natharius, and two brothers, William & James Hatch.

Mr. Hatch received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He retired as Project Engineer from the Uniroyal Corp. following 30 years of faithful service. He was a member of Scientific Honorary Society of Sigma Xi, Grace United Methodist Church, South Bend Elks #235, and served his country during WWII in the United States Navy.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Drs. Skelly, Toth , Ansari, and their care teams along with The Center for Hospice Care and their compassionate and caring teams

The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Services will be held at 11:00a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home with Rev. David Schrader, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
