Richard E. Busfield

Richard E. Busfield, Sr. , 89, of South Bend, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 25, 2016. He was born December 12, 1926 in South Bend to Lloyd and Bernice (Calloway) Busfield and has lived in the South Bend community all of his life.
He married Mary Jackson in South Bend at Ridgedale Presbyterian Church on March 4, 1961. She preceded him in death in 2012.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army and received a Victory Medal for his service.
He previously worked 20 years for the South Bend Fire Department, where he was Assistant Fire Chief for 8 years. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #303, a past member of the Elkhart Moose, a member of the Indiana Firefighters Association and a member of a group of retired firemen who met weekly at the Dew Drop Inn restaurant. Richard was also Sales Manager at The Ridge Company for 25 years before retiring on May 5, 1992.
Richard is survived by his four sons, Michael E. (Kathy) Busfield of Green Cove Springs, FL; Edward Busfield on Mishawaka, IN; Howard (Janet) Busfield of South Bend; and Richard Busfield, Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN; five grandchildren, Amy, Curtis, Aaron (Tarynn), Jillian and Tareyn; two great-grandchildren, Judah and Nora; one sister, Peg Yoder, of South Bend; and one brother, Jack Busfield of LaPorte, IN.
In additional to his parents, Lloyd and Bernice, Richard was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Flaherty, Helen Wondergem and Ruth Smith.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Richard Busfield will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park; 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, November 30 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior on Thursday at funeral home.
