Mary-Lou Wolfe Obituary

On April 1, 2024, Mary-Lou Wolfe passed after a brief stay at Hubbard Hill.  Born January 28, 1927, Mary-Lou lived through a multitude of changes during the 20th century.  A guiding principle for her was: “things change, you need to adjust”. She was a supporter of women’s rights and shattered more than a few traditional roles during her careers.

Mary-Lou is survived by her daughter, Linda Lizzi [Granger] and step daughter, Christine Zimmer [Dayton, OH]. Her husband of 57 years, Jim, passed in 2018.

She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved sharing their exploits: Kathryn [Trent] of Phoenix, Jim [Marin] of San Clemente, Heather [Tucker] of Ohio, Melissa [Joe] of Ohio, Lindsay [Jason] of Ohio and Jason of Ohio. She kept tabs on her great grandchildren [14+] and felt honored in their achievements.

Mary-Lou was a story teller sharing her history as well as what she was presently reading.  She was a child during the depression and a teenager during WWII.  She was a Camp Fire girl, played the piano and a graduate a John Adams High School keeping in contact with those friendships up until her death.

Among her yearly family travels, she rode a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and fell in love with the splendor of Sanibel Island [before the bridge]. The national parks were must-sees along the routes out West.

Mary-Lou was financial wizard up until the end.  She worked 30 years at the American National Bank in payroll, pension plans, archives and was the first female trust officer in Northern IN. She and her husband moved to Elkhart in the 80s choosing eight acres to build and run the Lookout Bed and Breakfast for twelve years. She was also an officer for the Indiana Bed and Breakfast Association, loving every minute of involvement.

A celebration of life is planned for the summer.  Contributions can be made to the Ontwa Ambulance Service [PO Box 596 Edwardsburg, MI 49112] or to any pet shelter of your choice.
