Mary Ann Price

Mary Ann Price, 85, passed away on January 27, 2016. She was born on November 14, 1930 to Anthony and Mary Pordon. She received her bachelor's degree from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN and a Master's of Social Work from Barry University. She was a licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Mrs. Price dedicated her entire 42 year career with the State of Florida to serving as an advocate for ensuring the safety and well-being of Florida's children. In 1974, as part of the Florida Child Protective Services System, she was the first supervisor for and instrumental in the development of the State of Florida Child Abuse Hotline, where tips on possible abuse or neglect of children could be reported 24/7 to a central location in Jacksonville, Fl. The severity of each report was evaluated and contact was initiated with appropriate local law enforcement or social workers for investigation.
This concept is still in existence today and has been expanded to include all children and adults needing protective services in Florida. From 1976-78, Mrs. Price was responsible for all children's services (including child protection, foster care, adoption and delinquency programs) as well economic services, with the Department of HRS in Fort Myers, Fl. Mrs. Price moved to Tallahassee in July, 1978 where she served as a Licensing Consultant for Foster Care and Group programs with the Department of Children and Families until her retirement.
Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Mary Pordon as well as her husband, Richard H Price. She is survived by several cousins and many dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 1 pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Rd.
In recognition of Mary Ann's deep love of animals, donations in her honor are requested, in lieu of flowers, to the Leon County Humane Society, 413 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312.
