FISHERS - Helen L. Verhoestra, 87, of Fishers, IN, formerly from South Bend, IN, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016, with her loving family at her bedside at the Hamilton Trace Nursing Home in Fishers, IN.

Helen was born on June 15, 1929, in South Bend, IN, to the late William H. and Thelma L. (Everson) Stanfield, Sr. As the former Helen Stanfield, she married Richard Verhoestra, Sr., on October 29, 1949. Helen and Richard shared 62 years commitment to each other. Richard passed away on May 1, 2011. Helen was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bill Stanfield, Don Stanfield; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stanfield. Helen is survived by her children, Susan (Mike) Conroy of Noblesville, IN, Patty Verhoestra of Naperville, IL, Rick (Beth) Verhoestra of Fishers, IN.

Helen was a loving, caring grandmother to 4 grandchildren, Susan K. Conroy and her husband Tony Wiederhold, Matthew Conroy, Adam Verhoestra and John Verhoestra. Helen graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, IN, in 1947. She was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Sorority Epsilon Theta Chapter. Helen treasured her friendships with her John Adams Classmates who she kept active with throughout her lifetime. While she had jobs outside of her home her primary focus was always her children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with the service at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. Entombment will follow the service, at which Helen will be laid to rest next to husband Richard in the Mausoleum at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend, IN. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana, for the tremendous care and for making the Trace her home.
