GRANGER - Ronald Deane Smith, 77, residing in Granger, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at his home. He was born in Mishawaka, IN, on Oct. 15, 1936, to the late Ernest H. and Lucile E. (Krumanaker) Smith.

He had resided in the South Bend, IN, area all of his life. On June 12, 1965, in Celina, OH, Ron married the former Linda L. (Granger) Smith, who survives. He is also survived by a sister, Dianne Heeter of Mishawaka; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law, John (Beverly) Granger of Celina, OH; sister-in-law, Gail (Trevor) Wilson of Chardon, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald E. Smith.

Ron was an educator retiring in 1991 from the South Bend Community School Corporation after 32 years teaching at Warren and Dickinson Junior High and Middle Schools. Ron was a 1955 graduate of John Adams High School and 1959 graduate of Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN. He received a master's degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He was a faithful member of Clay United Methodist Church singing in the adult choir.

Ron loved being with his family and friends and was a dedicated educator to many young people. A Celebration of Life memorial service for Ron will be held at 11 am Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Clay United Methodist Church, 52866 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46635.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Memorial contributions in honor of Ronald Deane Smith may be donated to Clay United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made to the Smith family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
