Michael A. Alexander
January 15, 1953 ~ September 22, 2025 (age 72)
Michael Allen Alexander was born on January 15, 1953, to the union of William H. and Patricia (Hill) Alexander, Jr., in South Bend, Indiana, where he resided until his passing September 22, 2025, after a brief illness.
Michael was educated in the South Bend Community School Corporation and graduated from John Adams High School in 1971. He then went on to Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana.
Michael worked at Torrington, Honeywell, the City of South Bend, and St. Joseph County Engineering department, where he retired. He then worked for Alford’s Mortuary until his passing.
Known as “O.G” in his neighborhood, Michael loved cars, Notre Dame Football, gardening and singing in the choir at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member under the leadership of Pastor Rickardo Taylor, Sr.
In 1973, Michael married Rosalind (Shumaker), and together they were blessed with two children, Nakesha Alexander and Michael Alexander II. Later in life, he married Yolanda Hale, and they later divorced.
Michael leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Nakesha and grandson, Jordan (Rayne) Alexander. He is also survived by his siblings: Melvin (Cherie) Shelton, Ellen (Pat Ouellette) Washington, Clarissa “Jeannie” Plair, Tony (Jen) Shelton, Sharon Strickland-Gooden, LaTangela Robinson, Vincent Alexander, and Debbie Alexander; Best Friend, George Robison. Special cousins, Michael “Short Dog” and Phyllis Phillips & Earl and Deb Walker, along with a host of relatives and friends.
Michael was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Washington and Sarah (Blue) Hill; paternal grandparents, William Henry and Lenora (Townsend) Alexander; his parents, William H. and Patricia (Washington-Hill) Alexander; a son, Michael Alexander, II; and sister, Cathy Glenn.
Special thanks to his physician, Dr. John Hudak at The South Bend Clinic; Memorial Hospital of South Bend, and to the team of doctors and nurses at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (Dr. Rowland and Dr. Salama in Interventional Radiology, and SICU nurses Mindi, Kelsey, Sibu and Zoe). Continued thanks to all of the family and friends who helped him during his illness.
