Mark, 72, and Janice Poland, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, due to a residential fire in their home. Janice was born in South Bend to Samuel and Bonnie (Heard) Conley on July 20, 1954. Mark was born in South Bend on November 4, 1951. After graduation from Washington High School, Janice began working at Bendix in South Bend. She was a faithful employee who went 23 years without missing a day. Mark graduated and went on to study at Vincennes University. He returned to the Michiana area and took a position at Bendix, where he eventually met the love of his life, Janice. They were married on December 24, 1980, in South Bend, and shared many wonderful years together. He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He ushered at the stadium for many years, earning his gold jacket. He was a fan of auto racing and in his younger years owned a local race team. His fondness for racing brought him to becoming a Nascar fan, and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. Mark was also known for his uncanny gift to recall sports scores. Janice loved to read and do crafts. She was very fond of her cats.
They are survived by their nephew, who they raised, Bryan (Misty) Andersen of Elkhart, Janice’s brother, Harlan R. (Marietta) Conley of South Bend, along with niece, Margaret Cagle, nephews Thomas and Robert Conley of South Bend and Bradley Landrum of Las Vegas, Nevada.
