Robert Porter Bob Smith

Robert "Bob" Porter Smith

Aug 24, 1941 - Feb 13, 2006

Robert P. Smith, 84, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on February 13, 2026, at Elkhart General Hospital. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit continues to shine brightly in the lives of all who loved him.

Born on August 24, 1941, Robert lived a life shaped by faith, service, and devotion. After graduating from Adams High School in 1960, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. It was during his time stationed in Washington that he married the love of his life, Carolyn M. (Yost) Smith. Their marriage was a true partnership, rooted in love, and blessed with family.

Upon returning to Elkhart after his military service, Robert began a long and respected career in RV sales. He was known not only for his dedication and work ethic but for the kindness, honesty, and genuine care he extended to everyone he worked with. His relationships weren’t transactional, they were personal, and many lasted a lifetime.

Robert truly enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping where he spent time with family and friends. He was a deeply patriotic man, grateful for the freedoms he defended, and a loyal lifelong fan of Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers.

His greatest joy, however, was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Kelly B. Reedy and Stephen P. Smith (Lizette); his grandchildren, Christphor Grasinski (Sarah), Michael Grasinski (Ally), Chelsea L. Hofacker (Adam), Kyle S. Smith, and Nicholas R. Reedy; and his great‑grandchildren, Xavier, Matthew, Noah, Luke, Elizabeth, Josephine, Gemma, Maria, Ezra, Gabriel Brother Pete Smith, Sister Fran (Harry) Cain and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Walley‑Mills‑Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 East Jackson Blvd in Elkhart.

Robert was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, his unwavering patriotism, the Bob Smith wisdom speeches, and the love he poured into his family. His faith carried him through life, and it carries him now into eternal peace.

May his memory be a blessing, his life an inspiration, and his soul held tenderly in God’s grace.  Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care.
