Donna Rae Diamond (Weaver) - Class Of 1959 VIEW PROFILE

Donna Rae Diamond (Weaver)

Donna Rae Weaver

April 9, 1941 — June 26, 2025

Donna passed away peacefully at her care facility in Elkhart, IN on June 26th, 2025.

Donna was born in Laporte, IN on April 9, 1941. She was the daughter of Maxine L. Diamond (Knowlton) and Charles M. Diamond of South Bend. Donna was born at Laporte Hospital as her father was overseas during WWII and Laporte Hospital was the closet to Maxine's mother's home who resided in North Liberty, IN. Donna was raised in the River Park area of South Bend with her brother, Gregory A. Diamond. She graduated from John Adams HS in June 1959. She married William G. Weaver on November 11, 1959. They settled in River Park where they raised four children. In 1972, they moved to Walnut Grove, South Bend. In 1978, the family moved to Coquillard Drive. She lived there until 1985. She then bought a home in Mishawaka, IN where she lived in retirement.

Donna had a rich and varied career path. Although she was invited to attend the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, God had other plans. She test-drove cars for Bendix Corporation, sold Tupperware, worked in a dental office, drove a school bus for South Bend Community School Corporation, and was part of the catering and dining staff at the University of Notre Dame. Donna was a woman of many talents and an unshakable work ethic. Donna was a member of St. Michael's Episcopalian Church where she sang in the choir and worked on the women's vestry. After moving to Mishawaka, she became a member of Albright United Methodist Church in Mishawaka where she was a member until her passing. Donna loved to sing and dance. She was also a great fan of Notre Dame Football and Basketball. Donna had season tickets to all the home Notre Dame football games, and even when she did not attend a game, you could always hear her cheering on the Irish. She also shared those season tickets and allowed family members to enjoy football games as much as she did. Fun fact, she among many others, got to be an extra during the filming of the movie Rudy. During the 1992 halftime game between Notre Dame and Boston College all of the fans were given 1960's period hats and scarves to wear for some scenes for the film.

She was a very caring person who loved helping people when she could. For the most part, she was a stay at home mom who drove her kids everywhere including to school, ballet, band, basketball, football, softball, baseball, choir and baton practices. She was always her kids biggest fan especially at EastSide Little league where you would find her nearly every Saturday cheering on her boys during their baseball games and her daughters's softball games. She loved parades and took all of her kids, niece and nephew to them. Donna also loved attending the Plymouth Blueberry Festival and the St. Joseph Co. 4-H Fair and frequently attended with her mom, kids and grandkids. Donna was very proud of her four children, nine grandchildren, plus two step-grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, whom she cherished.

Donna was also an animal lover. Throughout the years, she kept dogs and cats, especially loving a Siamese cat named Lady and a dog named Dude. She loved to go to Potawatomi Zoo and see all the animals there. She loved nature and liked to go to Potato Creek State Park to see the flora and fauna. Camping was a high point for her too, where she and William "Bill" took her children on fun filled adventures traveling as far as Des Moines, IA. Unfortunately, during that trip they experienced a tornado. By the grace of God, no one was injured and many memories were made. She and Bill also took the kids on fishing trips to Eagle Lake and other various lakes in the area. For two years in a row, she and Bill drove their kids to the Colorado Springs area where she loved the beauty of the mountains.

Donna is preceded in death by her father, Charles M. Diamond; mother, Maxine L. Diamond; brother, Gregory A. Diamond; aunt, Marjorie Williamson; and nephew, Brent A. Diamond.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bette Diamond; children, Dawn (Dwayne) R. Golden, Todd W. Weaver, William G. (Tracy A.) Weaver Jr., Christopher C. Weaver; niece, Sara L. (Brian) Evans; grandchildren, Shayne Golden, Robyn (Shawn) Forsythe, Ryanne (Timothy) Hunt, Brittan (Kiley) Golden, Riley Weaver, Collin Weaver, Leah (Jonah) Twiddy, Neely (Evan) Freel, Tanya Gabrish, Danielle Gabrish, and Justin Weaver; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will held Wednesday at 1:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Rd. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Ministries of South Bend, IN, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, or to a charity of your choosing.

George H. Winkelmann (1961)

Donna was in my brother John's class at JAHS.  I didn't know her but remember seeing her wandering the hallowed halls of John Adams.  From reading the above it sounds like she is leaving a great legacy of life and love behind.  Mourn her passing well...laugh and cry while sharing the many memories.  Another Eagle has flown into the skies.  Rest in in peace Donna Rae.
