In Memory
William “Bill” Grant Trethewey
William “Bill” Grant Trethewey went to heaven on July 3, 2024, at home in Goshen, Indiana, with his wife of 60 years at his side. He was 82 years old.
Bill was born on July 20, 1941 in Elkhart to William and Kathryn Trethewey. He married Diane Wilsberg on March 28, 1964, and had 4 sons: Stephen, Timothy, Brian and David.
Bill was a Bethel College graduate, a pastor and a bus driver shuttling passengers to O’Hare and the Irish across Notre Dame. After retirement, Bill and Diane, volunteered at Camp Ithiel, Florida and Potato Creek as the campground hosts. Bill enjoyed cooking over the campfire, followed by his famous Georgia Pine when they had visitors. They set the host standard and their legacy lives on with the volunteers there.
Bill was the kindest man with a great sense of humor. He was beloved by his family and a beacon for shining the Lord’s light. Bill was the man that could fix anything with nothing. He taught his sons the value of a hard day’s work, to fix cars and how to be men. He was active at church, loved snuggling in his recliner with their dog, Lily, documentaries and sitting on their deck with circus peanuts, a vanilla malt or lemon meringue pie.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Tim, and sister, Kathryn (Cecil) Burke. He is survived by his wife, Diane, sons: Stephen (Kimmie), Brian (Jenna) and David, 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and sister, Edy (Bob) Gordon.
Bill’s celebration of life will be July 20, 2024, 11 a.m., Jefferson Community Church, Goshen, with visitation an hour prior. Special thanks to Elara Hospice and his many doctors. Bill donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, significantly benefitting the quality of life and care for the living.
Memorial donations can be made to: Elara Caring, in Mishawaka or the Anatomical Education Program, 635 Barnhill Drive, Room MS 304, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
