Forrest R. Hurlbut, a cherished soul known for his unwavering love and generosity, passed away in the comfort of his Mishawaka home on August 12, 2024. Born on March 7, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana, he forged a life of dedication and service, leaving a legacy of kindness and strength.


A proud graduate of South Bend Adams High School, class of 1960, Forrest immediately served his country in the United States Army as a Green Beret. His commitment to hard work continued at Uniroyal-Ball Band, where he dedicated over four decades of his life. Forrest's contributions to the workforce remained until his retirement in 2015, reflecting his enduring work ethic and reliable nature.

Forrest’s loyalty and passion extended to his personal life, where he was an avid follower of NASCAR, cheering on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt. He also found joy in watching the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame Football, and engaging rounds of Euchre with friends. These simple pleasures were the hallmark of a life lived with sincerity and joy.

Forrest's heart was a haven of love for his family. He was a beloved husband to his late wife, Diana (Evans) Hurlbut, with whom he shared the cherished dance of life until her passing in 1985. A guiding light to his children, Brenda, Christopher, and Anthony; adored brother to Claude; and a playful grandfather to Noah, he upheld the family’s unity with love and laughter. He is preceded by his parents, Marvin and Francis (Fox) Hurlbut, siblings, Ruth, Ella, Marvin, Clarence, and George Hurlbut, and grandson Cory.

Remembered as loving and generous, Forrest’s life was a testament to unwavering kindness. His open heart and hands freely gave to others, imprinted memories of his spirit in the lives he touched. While he has journeyed from this world, the legacy of Forrest R. Hurlbut will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew him.

At this time per the families wishes there will be no services. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel will be assisting the family with final arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN 46545 to help the family with final costs.

George H. Winkelmann (1961)

I did not know Forest personally, but I certainly remember passing him many times in the hallowed halls of John Adams High School.  I'm certain he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.  Share all of those cherished memories through the tears and laughter for decades to come.  It sounds like he lived a life as one of the good guys.  What a blessing it must have been to know him.  God bless you one and all as you mourn his passing.  Another Eagle has flown into the clouds!! G
