Rodney Francis Recla passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on March 21, 1943, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Ernest and Emelia (Barilla) Recla, Rodney's life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a love for the world around him.
Rodney grew up in the heart of South Bend and was a proud graduate of John Adams High School. His thirst for knowledge and self-improvement led him to further his education through college courses at IVY Tech and Southwestern Michigan College. Rodney's academic pursuits laid a strong foundation for his career as an electrician at Honeywell, where he was known for his meticulous work and unwavering reliability.
In his personal life, Rodney was a beacon of love and stability. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vawnlea Recla, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Lisa (Randy) Recla-Espick of Niles, MI, and Noel (Shay) Recla of South Bend, Indiana. Rodney's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Liz Espick, Ian Recla, and Aubrey Rand, who will forever hold dear the memories and lessons imparted by their grandfather. Though Rodney is now reunited with his late sister, Kay Nagy, and brother, Gary Recla, his absence leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him.
Rodney's life was enriched by his involvement with the Bend of the River Conservation Club and the Michiana Bicycle Association. His passion for the outdoors and commitment to conservation were evident to all who knew him. He found joy in the camaraderie and shared purpose within these communities, and his contributions will be deeply missed.
