SOUTH BEND - Mary Elizabeth Middleton, 66, of South Bend, died at 2:58 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 2009, in Elkhart Hospice House following a long, courageous battle with cancer and complications from a stroke, with her daughter Becky and son-in-law Jeff at her side. Mary was born July 13, 1943, in South Bend, to the late Mary (Vall) and Melvin C. Taylor, and was a lifetime area resident. She married Terry Bognar May 5, 1973, who preceded her in death June 6, 1978. She is survived by two daughters, Becky A. Tom (Jeff) and Molly Melton (Ken Klingerman), both of South Bend; four grandchildren, Steven Melton and Jeffery, Ryan and Anne Tom; four great-grandchildren, Tiffany Waggoner, Taylor and Tyler Thomas, and Christian Tom; two sisters, Barbara Schelstrate and Judy Niespodziany, both of Mishawaka; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Davis. Mary was a nurse at Madison Center for Children. She loved working with kids. She lived in South Bend her entire life and lived with her true love, "Frankie," her cocker spaniel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 1st, in Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Neil Wach, CSC, officiating. Cremation will follow at Welsheimer Crematory. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N.
