John J. Almassy
John J. Almassy, 80, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, February, 14, 2018 in Hospice House, South Bend. John was born April 9, 1937 in South Bend, to the late John S. Almassy and Helen M. (Baumgartner).
On January 21,1984 in South Bend, John married Sally A. (Hauenstein), who survives, along with a daughter, Teresa Houin of Plymouth,IN, one son, Stephen R. Almassy of Mishawaka, two stepsons, Mark P. (Cheryl) Oliver of Chandler, AZ, and Grant V. (Carol) Oliver of Kent, WA; three grandchildren, Michael Houin, Emily Smith, and Sara Oliver; three great-grandchildren, Isabel Smith, Dawson Smith, and Landon Houin; and one brother, Joseph J. (Christine) Almassy of West Bloomfield, MI.
John attended St. Stephen Catholic elementary school and was a 1956 graduate of John Adams High School. He had worked in Automotive and R V sales for many years, and was a member of St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church. John enjoyed fishing in his spare time, and was a big Notre Dame sports fan, especially his Fighting Irish Football team. But what John enjoyed most of all, was his loving family and his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by them and by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17th, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, with Rev. James Bracke C.S.C. and Rev. Terry Coonan officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may visit with the family 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. today, Friday, February 16th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. South Bend, and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Drive, Mishawaka, IN, 46545, where envelopes will be provided.
