Carolyn Ann Lightner (Hosey)

Carolyn Ann Hosey

May 2, 1939 - Feb. 27, 2015

SOUTH BEND - Carolyn Ann Hosey, age 75, died peacefully in the early morning hours on February 27, 2015, at Brookdale North Chandler in Chandler, AZ, where she was being treated for COPD and recovering from hip surgery.

Carolyn was born in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Floyd O. Lightner and Vera E. Lightner, and sister to her siblings, Charles A. Lightner and Sarah J. Staton. Family and friends were Carolyn's delight and passion. She thoroughly enjoyed all types of sports. She was a longtime fan of the Arizona Diamond-backs, Phoenix Suns, San Francisco 49'ers and most of all, NCAA Basketball. There wasn't a time during the day or night when she wasn't watching a game on TV or listening to one on the radio. In the hot Arizona summer months she enjoyed going up north to the family cabin in Pinetop, AZ, to dig in the dirt, climb trees and use a chain saw!

In 1960 she married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. (Chuck) Hosey in Mishawaka, IN. In 1962 she was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Lynne, and in 1964 while pregnant with her son Douglas, her husband Chuck was transferred to a different job and the family moved to La Habra, CA, where she started to raise her children before the family moved again to Tempe, AZ, in 1977.

Known for her famous holiday cheese balls that she handmade each year for family and friends, Carolyn also loved the outdoors, entertaining friends, collecting and searching for those hard to find antiques and occasionally trying her luck at a slot machine. Growing up, Carolyn didn't like to fly; however, when Chuck got his pilot's license and eventually his own plane, she overcame her fear of flying and flew all over the country with Chuck, visiting friends and family.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Chuck, children, Lynne of Chandler, AZ, and Douglas of Phoenix, AZ, brother, Charles (Margy) Lightner of South Bend, IN, sister, Sarah Staton of South Bend, IN, three nieces, three nephews, their families, and a number of other relatives and close family friends.

Carolyn requested that a funeral not be held in her honor but desired all who knew her to remember the fantastic times they shared and cherish those moments.
