Janet Kay (Mundell) Mitchell
Janet Kay Mitchell, 87, formerly of Bourbon, IN, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Ernestine Raclin Hospice House in Mishawaka, IN.
Janet was born on September 4, 1938 to Lewis and Louise Mundell. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1957. During high school she was in the Sock Hop Dance Club and worked as a factory secretary. She was high school sweethearts with Robert Mitchell whom she married on November 28, 1959. Kay was employed by Purdue University as an assistant secretary while Bob attended classes. She was saved and baptized at the Country Church of Bourbon, IN. She attended Nappanee Missionary Church and First Baptist Church of Elkhart, IN. She loved worshiping her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She enjoyed working in numerous beautifully landscaped flower gardens, maintaining a meticulous garden, working hard on the homestead, milking cows, raising calves, cooking for the farm hands and baking for others, renovating the homestead brick house and refinishing the interior woodwork. She worked alongside her husband, Bob, managing their beautiful Victorian estate. She deeply loved and cared for others, was gracious to all with a servant’s heart, and was a classy, wonderful mother and housewife.
Janet is survived by her son, David (Missy) Mitchell; daughter, Melinda (Tye) Chupp; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Jeannine (Don) Severied; and Diane (Michael) Cichinsky.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Louise Mundell; her husband, Robert Kenneth Mitchell (5/22/2021); and her son, Michael Scott Mitchell (12/24/2001).
The family has planned private services.
