Reid passed away from brain cancer on April 11, 2004 in Colorado. He graduated from
the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and
obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Denver. He started his own law
firm in 1975 in Colorado. Reid dedicated a great deal of his time to community
organizations such as the YMCA and The Boys and Girls Club, to name a few. (Taken in

LICHTENFELS, J. REID Attorney At Law John Reid Lichtenfels was a business and real estate litigation attorney who was a loving husband and father, and an integral part of the Denver community.

He died on April 11, 2004 in his Denver home after a long battle with brain cancer. He was 55 years old. Reid was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Ann Lichtenfels on June 15, 1948. His childhood was spent in South Bend, Indiana, where he was a graduate of John Adams High School, and Indiana State diving champion in 1966. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1970, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, and was a varsity member of the diving team. Reid obtained a Juris Doctor degree in 1974 from the University of Denver.

He was a founder and principal of Lichtenfels, Pansing, & Miller, P.C., a small law firm in Cherry Creek, specializing in real estate transactions, construction law, telecommunications law, business transactions and real est! ate related litigation. He began practicing law in 1974, and started his own law firm in 1975, which evolved into the current firm of Lichtenfels, Pansing, & Miller. Reid’s passion for teaching and service within the community was a common thread in all of his life experiences. He was involved in volunteering on youth projects beginning with his work with the YMCA youth athletic programs as a mentor/coach in swimming and diving, and continued as a teacher of grade school in South Bend in 1970 & 1971.

He was continuously involved with his children’s athletics, and was a member of the Board of Directors for Club Denver Soccer, and the parent representative of the East-Manual Lacrosse Team from 1994 to 1998. Reid worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Denver for over seven years, chairing the Boys & Girls Club Invitational Pro-Am golf tournament at the golf club of Castle Pines. He also worked with the Denver Bar Association as a tutor and mentor for! disadvantaged children at Dora Moore School. A true outdoorsm! an, Reid found time to enjoy the mountains of Colorado and other beautiful areas of the world as an avid golfer, fly fisher, skier, and biker. His greatest pleasures were found through sharing these experiences with family and friends.

He had many great adventures in his life, including camping and fishing with family in the mountains of Colorado, and touring France and Italy with his wife and friends on their bicycles. Reid was a founding member of the Cherry Creek Country Club, and a member of the Denver Athletic Club.

Reid is survived by his beloved wife, Hannelore; his children, Evan Reid (Heather) Lichtenfels, and Kristian Thomas Lichtenfels; his mother, Ann Lichtenfels of Las Cruces, New Mexico; his brothers, Jeffery (Gloria) Lichtenfels of South Bend, Indiana, and Thomas (Theresa) Lichtenfels of Steamboat, Colorado; and his sisters, Candice (Tim) Hartzer of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jennifer (Dan Howard) Lichtenfels of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Also survived by numerous niec! es, nephews, cousins and friends.
