Sergeant Dean Moehring served in the US Army and died on March 3, 1969 at the age of
20. He was killed in combat in the Infantry while feverishly trying to save one of his
wounded men. He was shot by a North Vietnamese Army company that fired on his
platoon. Dean was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by the
President of the United States for his extraordinary heroism. His name appears on the
Vietnam Wall Memorial in Washington, D.C. (Taken in part from the Military Times web

Sgt. U.S. Army, {US54822349}, Vietnam War-Sgt. Moehring was killed in action by small arms fire on 3-3-1969 while serving as a Light Weapons Infantryman {11B40} with Baker Co. of the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. Sgt. Moehring started his tour of Vietnam on September 6, 1968.

He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Raw W. Moehring of 121 Waxwing Street, Naperville, Illinois, and is a 1966 graduate of Naperville H.S.

Awards: Army Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Serviced Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Narional Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal.

Footnote: His DFC was earned for his gallant actions on 3-3-1969 while as a Platoon Leader near Fire Support Base Liz near Duc Pho, South Vietnam while trying to save his Platoon, and a severly wounded soldier, and direct operations for reinforcements, and extraction for the wounded.
