Louis Davis Fleming

Louis Davis Fleming, 82, of South Bend, Indiana, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at his residence surrounded by loving family. He fondly remembered by family, friends, and all who knew him.

Born on February 4, 1944, in Columbia, Tennessee he is the son of the late Hollis and Nora Fleming. After graduating from John Adams High School, Louis went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long-term career with the South Bend Community School Corporation until his retirement.

Louis was a devoted family man, but he also loved fishing, hunting, and his hound dogs. He enjoyed the peacefulness of rippling water, the tug of a fish on the line, the crunch of the fall leaves, and that sweet hound dog music echoing through the woods.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Zenobia Joyce (Hall) in 1970 and his second wife of over 55 years, Shirley Ann (Turner), in 2023; as well as his brothers and sister, Pasco Fleming, McRay O'Neal Fleming, Ella White, and Preston Fleming.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Geneva Littlejohn, Anthony (Stacy) Fleming, Nora (Arthur) Bates, Evelyn Fleming, Michael (Renée) Fleming, and Steven (Sonjia) Fleming; brother Joseph Fleming; sister Gladys Hamilton; grandchildren: Charity (Adrian) Kelley, Patience Brown, Hannah Adams, Sahbria Diggins, Samaria Fleming, David Adams, Christopher Danner, Anthony Fleming Jr., Tiara Fleming, Adrias Fleming, Johnathon Simmons, Justice Brown, Khalíl Fleming, Akira Fleming, Kyle McGee, Janie Bates, Haven Winston, Dominique Fleming, and Steven M. Fleming; 46 great-grandchildren; many godchildren: special nieces and nephews as well as countless relatives, and friends

Above all, Louis lived a life marked by strength, perseverance, and the lasting bonds he shared with family and those closest to him. His presence, wisdom, and memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Alford's Mortuary Chapel, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana. The funeral service will immediately follow at the same location. Family, friends, and those whose lives Louis Davis Fleming touched are invited to join us to celebrate his memory.
