OSCEOLA - Dennis D. Herrschop, 73, of Osceola, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. The Mishawaka native was born June 1, 1944 to Luke & Marjorie (Beeman) Herrschop. Denny graduated from John Adams High School with the Class of ‘62 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, honorably discharged in 1966. On August 19, 1967, Denny married Connie (Helmlinger) Herrschop, “the love of his life” in South Bend. He retired from Elkhart Supply in 2004 after working many years in the electrical supply industry. After retirement, Denny worked as a director's assistant at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, where he enjoyed the opportunity to be of assistance to others. He was also an avid and lifelong Cubs fan, who for years forecast that “the Cubs would win a World Series during his lifetime” and last November, his family was thrilled that he was able to cheer his team to victory. Denny was also an avid fan of college football & basketball and especially Notre Dame football. In addition to his parents, Denny was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane Retek and his mother & father-in-law, Richard & Lillian Helmlinger. Denny is survived by Connie Herrschop, his wife of 49 years, along with his brother, Donald Herrschop of Granger, sister, Deborah (Kenneth) Odynski of South Bend, sister-in-law, Bonnie Delio of Rantoul, IL; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Debbie) Helmlinger of Jackson, MI and David Retek of Granger; 13 nieces & nephews and 13 great-nieces & nephews. Arrangements through Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W. Cleveland Rd., Granger. The family's preferred memorials are the Cancer Society of St. Joseph County, 919 East Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46617; or RiverBend Cancer Services, 3516 E.
