Cynthia Jane Polk Muller, aged 78, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 7, 2022 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Cynthia was born in Dowagiac, Michigan on November 16, 1943 to Ruth Helen Munkvold Polk and Arthur Eugene Polk, Sr. She and her siblings grew up on Polk's lakeshore property on Magician Lake, originally purchased by the family in 1910. Cynthia was an educator for forty-six years in Miami-Dade County, first as an elementary classroom teacher, then as a curriculum specialist. She lovingly dedicated a large portion of her life to guiding teachers towards developing creative teaching techniques and was a proponent of the Montessori method. She graduated from the University of Miami School of Education, where she met her husband of 54 years, Don. Cynthia was also a master's degree graduate of Florida International University. Cynthia and Don raised two children in Miami, Florida until retirement, ultimately jointly establishing residence on Magician Lake in Dowagiac, Michigan; and in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with their daughter. Cynthia will be sorely missed by her family and all that knew her. She was a source of joy, encouragement and positivity. She believed in "making her own sunshine" and shared that light with others. She is survived by her husband, Donald Robert Muller, Baton Rouge; her daughter, Anne Marie Polk Muller McCrary and son-in-law Timothy McCrary of Baton Rouge and Magician Lake; son, Franz Christopher Polk Muller of Magician Lake; grandchildren: Franz Christopher Polk Muller, Jr, Lucas Knox Polk, Wesley James McCrary and Lillian Marie McCrary; niece, Hilda Cox Reiter niece, Sarah Jane Smith, Magician Lake; niece, Melinda Tossani, Santa Fe; iece Jennifer Rocco, Dallas; nephew Phillip J. Smith, Columbus, Ohio; and nephew Daniel Arthur Polk Smith, Park Rapids, MN. Cynthia will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Dowagiac, Michigan late spring.
