David L. Flora

David L. Flora, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in De Pere, WI, on Saturday October 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer with family by his side. He was born in South Bend, IN, on March 2, 1944, to the late Donald and Geneva (Salyer) Flora.

Dave grew up in South Bend, IN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and working on cars. He was a sponsored drag racer, avid sports fan, and athlete. He graduated from John Adams High School and enjoyed his time at Ball State. In 1966 Dave met Elaine Jones through mutual friends and they married July 28th, 1967. Dave served his country in the Army Reserves.

Dave was a gifted storyteller and never met a stranger he couldn’t have a conversation with. He enjoyed helping and giving to others. He gave to his community in many ways, such as fundraising for the Unified School District of De Pere and the Wrightstown Community School District. He served on the Board for De Pere Parks and Rec and the De Pere Figure Skating Club. He volunteered for De Pere Youth Hockey, and coached soccer, hockey, and his favorite, football. For 30+ years, Dave was an usher for the Green Bay Packer games in Sections 14 and 16. He made friends and told jokes with many of the season ticket holders.

His favorite past time was cheering on his children and grandchildren, along with all their friends. He was known for his cheer of “Go Blue”, “Take it Away”, and “Be Happy” from the stands. His positivity and generosity were contagious. He was happiest when he was giving back to others. Spending time with his family and friends brought him immense joy. Dave made sure that everyone he interacted with felt cherished and appreciated.

Dave is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine. His children; Scott (Toni) Flora, Nicole (Cory) Haese, Renee (Eric) Williams. His grandchildren; Kayleen and Marshall; Zac, Luke, and Sam; Jonathan, Preston, Bennett, and Isabella. He is further survived by his in-laws: Mary Ann Nelson, Chuck and Linda Jones, Barb Jones, and Mike Peczynski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, John William and Lois Jones; brother Chuck Flora, and brother-in-law, Tom Jones.

Friends and family may come to call on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N Tenth Street, De Pere, for a Celebration of Life from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family.

Dave’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Larry Colassacco, Dr. Niray Patel and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Team; Dr. Vaishalle Kenkre and her amazing team at UW – Carbone Cancer Clinic, and the Unity Hospice Organization. Dave cherished and appreciated each and every one of you.
