Dennis Michael Borich

Mar. 14, 1948 - Jul. 19, 2003

Dennis M. Borich , 55, of Canterbury Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away from natural causes early Saturday, July 19.

Dennis was born on March 14, 1948, in Chicago, Ill. He was the third of four children born to John J. and Genevieve (Oslakovich) Borich , who both preceded him in death in 2002.

Dennis married Cindy Reske on May 15, 1981. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; and their son, Drew Michael, at home. He is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie (Al) Hopper and Becky (Rick) Kapsa, both of Granger, Ind.; and one brother, John J. Jr. (Terry) Borich of South Bend. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Larry Reske of Mishawaka, Ind.; and sisters-in-law, Sharon (Al) Riefel and Linda Ellis, both of Niles, Mich.

Dennis had a unique life after being crippled with polio at the early age of 4. He moved with his family to South Bend in 1952. While in South Bend, Dennis graduated from both John Adams High School and the South Bend College of Commerce. At the culmination of his educational career, Dennis spent 26 years working for the City of South Bend, where he eventually retired.

His love for sports was above and beyond most sports enthusiasts. In the summer, Dennis faithfully followed his Chicago White Sox, his fall season was devoted to Notre Dame football, and Sunday's were spent flipping between NASCAR and da' Bears. Dennis' love for Roy Rodgers also followed him throughout his life.

You could always count on a laugh when in the presence of Dennis, whether it was his witty personality or wearing some sort of outrageous attire. Everyone will miss his warm smile.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, and volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in the surgical waiting room.

Dennis is also survived by his nephews, Jason (Michele) Borich of Sugar Hill, Ga., Jamie (Leslie) Hopper of Indianapolis, Ind., Nick Kapsa of Rhode Island, Dustin Kapsa of Chicago and Kerry Zielinski of South Bend; a niece, Leslie Zielinski of Indianapolis; and also one great-niece, Anna of Sugar Hill.
