Richard A. "Butch" Quimby, 75, passed away at 3:31am on Wednesday January 17, 2024, in Memorial Hospital.
Born on December 27, 1948, in South Bend, IN, Butch was a man whose life was characterized by his selfless nature, spirited personality, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anita (Sperling) Quimby, Sr.; his step daughter, Saralee Tillinghast; sister, Patti Jo Quimby; and brothers, Charles Quimby, Jr., Michael Quimby, and Johnny Quimby.
Butch's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a dedicated husband to his wife, Lisa Quimby. She survives along with granddaughters, Caitlyn Tillinghast and Christina Gilbert; daughter, Kellysue Hunt-Meehan; step son, Jordan Rivera; sister, Terry Kilgas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Butch's professional life was as dynamic as it was varied. His passion for driving was the common thread that ran through his career. Whether it was transporting excited fans to Notre Dame football games, delivering LP gas, or ensuring the timely distribution of medical supplies, Butch was always on the move, making sure that people and goods got to where they needed to be safely and on time. His work was more than a job; it was a way of connecting with his community and serving others.
Away from his professional duties, Butch found solace and joy on the golf course. An avid golfer, he was known for his athletic prowess and the friendly competition he brought to every game. Butch's love for golf was just one facet of his fun-loving character. Those who knew him will remember him as a kind man who stood as a protector of his family and a defender of victims. He held a firm belief in fairness and never wanted anyone to be treated unjustly.
Butch's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives he touched with his generosity and vibrant spirit. He was a man who lived his life with purpose and joy, always putting the needs of others before his own. His selfless nature was evident in everything he did, from the way he cared for his family to the way he interacted with friends and strangers alike.
There will be no services at this time. Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
