Wendy Lee (Hamman) Bailey

Sep. 1, 1968 - Nov. 2, 2022

Wendi Lee Hamman, age 54, of Mishawaka, passed away on November 2, 2022, holding the loving hand of her fiancée. Wendi was born on September 1, 1968, in South Bend.

Wendi had a feisty and vivacious spirit. But when she loved, she loved fiercely. Her loves included her family, her fiancée, her fur babies and Texas. She was very selfless and always put others before herself. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone who needed it and made sure that no one left her home hungry.

Wendi loved making people and her surroundings beautiful. She was a seamstress, specializing in wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses. Her true love, however, was making silk flower arrangements.

Wendi was a graduate of South Bend Adams High School where she was an active member of the dance squad and choreographed several routines. Wendi spread her love of dance by teaching at a local dance studio while still in high school. Wendi worked in a variety of different career fields including dancer, model, retail, florist and construction.

Wendi was born and raised in South Bend, but she loved Texas and lived there for 20 years. She spent her days enjoying the Texas weather by fishing and gardening. She was a big Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan. Even though she spent the last seven years in Indiana, she still had a strong Texas accent. Wendi loved animals - her favorite was giraffes. One of her happiest moments was feeding the giraffes at the Fort Wayne Zoo.

Wendi is survived by her dad, Patrick Hamman of Mishawaka; mom Carolyn (Richard) Rush of Lakeville; fiancée Aaron Nickel of Mishawaka; mother-in-law Nancy Nickel of Mishawaka; brothers Jeremiah (Gary Cox) Rush of Mishawaka and Bronson Rush of Lakeville; sister Kaitlin (Austin) Wray of Lakeville; sister-in-law Carmen (Brian) Cox of Valparaiso; nieces Violet Wray of Lakeville, Destiney Cox of Valparaiso and Brooke Hamman and nephews Don and Dontevoin Cox of Valparaiso and Brandon Hamman.

Visitation and a time to share memories with her family will be held from 4-7 pm Friday, November 11, 2022, at Goethals and Wells Funeral Home in Mishawaka.  Interment will take place privately at a later time.

Wendi’s family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to those who walked beside their family throughout Wendi’s time of need; John and Janet, as well as the rest of the staff on the 6th floor at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and the Nurses, Doctors and support staff at the Center for Hospice, Raclin House in Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wendi’s memory to the Center for Hospice.
