GOSHEN - Robert P. Lawton, 45, of Goshen, died at 7:00 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Joseph High School, South Bend.
His death was unexpected, but he had suffered from a long term illness.
He was born on June 2, 1967 in Ft. Wayne. On October 14, 2000, in Middlebury, he married Meribethe Groves; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Freddie Lawton of South Bend; his mother, Doris Lawton of South Bend; three sisters, Dotty (Dick) Daring of Ft. Wayne, Christine (Michael) Hatlack of Forreston, IL & Kathleen Bailey of South Bend; three brothers, Brian "Duke" (Lorena) Lawton of Niles, MI, Gerry Lawton of Warsaw & Stephan Lawton of Palm Springs, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy J. Lawton.
He was an avid Notre Dame fan and was active in Little League when he was younger. He loved music and helped with miscellaneous area broadcasting. He was a member of the Lake Grange and a Northridge High School Girls Basketball fan. He has volunteered many hours of service to the Red Cross.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm on Wednesday, January 2 at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Thursday, January 3 at First United Methodist Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Byron Kaiser.
Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
