Judy Lynn (Donofrio) Brayton
Judy Lynn Brayton passed away peacefully on May 18, 2024, in Granger, Indiana.
Judy was born September 25, 1945, to Albert and Juanita Donofrio in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, the youngest of four sisters. After their family moved to South Bend, Indiana, she attended John Adams High School where she met the love of her life, Dennis Brayton, and graduated in 1964. They were married July 30, 1966, at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee. Judy spent many years as a stay-at-home mom before she went to nursing school at Ivy Tech and graduated in 1982. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Joseph Medical Center, then at several physician’s offices, ending her career at South Bend Neurology.
Judy loved her family and always cared for others. She enjoyed camping trips and nature, especially bird watching. She was a breast cancer survivor and a true fighter until the end. She a strong woman, who worked hard and set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Hixon and Barbara Dunn, and also by her son-in-law, Shawn Detwiler. She is survived by her loving husband Dennis and her daughters Kimberly Detwiler (Shawn) and Heather Adams, and her sister Nancy Fields. Judy had three grandchildren, Spencer Adams, Bryson Detwiler (Abi) and Kylee Detwiler.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Palmer Funeral Homes – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615 with visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group, 53713 Co Rd 35, Middlebury, IN 46540.
