Robert Eugene Huff

JONESBORO - Dr. Robert E. Huff, 57, 7600 S. Strawtown Pike, died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday at home.

He was born in Mishawaka to Kenneth and Hellen (Rottmiller) Huff. He married Nancy Ortman on Dec. 21, 1968. She survives.

He received his bachelor's degree in education in 1968 from Ball State University in sociology, history and biology. In 1971, he received his master's degree in elementary education in 1977, he received his education specialists in school superintendencey and in 1980, he received his doctorate in educational administration, all from Ball State.

Mr. Huff taught fifth and sixth grades at Monroe Central Schools, Parker, 1968-78 fifth and sixth grades at Nettle Creek Schools, Hagerstown, 1972-74 was an administrative assistant and elementary school principal at Charles A. Beard Memorial Schools, Knightstown, 1974-79 a doctoral fellow at Ball State University and council assistant at Northwest Indiana School Study Council, 1979-80 an assistant superintendent for Madison-Grant United Schools, Fairmount, 1980-87 facilitator/ instructor for Indiana Wesleyan University's LEAP program since 1985 and superintendent of Madison-Grant United Schools, from 1987 until retiring on Sept. 30, 2003.

He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa since 1973 Fairmount Friends Church, Fairmount East Central Study Council, treasurer, 1992-2002 Grant County Special Education Cooperative, board member since 1987, and board chairman, 1992-96 Region 8, governing board member since 1990, executive board member, 1995-2000, secretary of executive board, 1997-98, vice president of executive board, 1998-99, president of executive board and governing board, 1999-2000, and member of professional development academy advisory board, 1995-96.

Mr. Huff also was a member of the Gemmill Foundation board of directors since 1996 the Wall-Raschbacher Trust board of directors, 1989-95, and chairman of the board, 1990-91 and 1992-93 Indiana Wesleyan University community advisory board since 1989 Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents since 1987 Indiana Association of School Business Officials since 1988 Northern Indiana Superintendent's Club since 1995 Grant County Business-Education Partnership executive board since 1987 Grant County Farm Progress Show Task Force since 1999.

Also surviving are a son, Nathan (Michelle) Huff, Swayzee daughter, Leanna Huff, Jonesboro sister, Rosemary (Mrs. Phil) Bondi, Livingston, Texas and granddaughter, Mikayla Huff.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairmount Friends Church, 124 W. First St., Fairmount, with the Rev. Jackie Michaelson officiating. Burial is in Park Cemetery, Fairmount.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. today at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, and 1 p.m. until services Wednesday at the church.
