Thomas Michael Daugherty

NORTH LIBERTY - Thomas M. Daugherty, president of the North Liberty Town Board, died Sunday morning in his home of natural causes.

Mr. Daugherty, 46, of 107 E. Ruppel St., was a Republican nominee in Tuesday's election for a second four-year term.

Mr. Daugherty was employed by Herman Goetz Inc., South Bend, as a service and repair technician and was a former employee of Sears, Roebuck and Co.

He was born March 18, 1947, in South Bend, and lived in North Liberty for 26 years, coming from South Bend. On March 30, 1968, in North Liberty, he married Kathleen G. Whitmer. She survives, with two sons, Michael T. and Adam C., both of North Liberty; and three brothers, William of Fullerton, Calif., Dennis of Stockton, Calif., and John of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mr. Daugherty was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1954.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in North Liberty Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 365 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1954. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and after 7 p.m. Tuesday in A.M. Manuel Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Liberty Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
