Dennis A Riedel

Dec. 31, 1946 ­ July 28, 2016 ELKHART ­ Dennis E. Riedel, 69, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at his home. He was born Dec. 31, 1946, in South Bend, to Dale M. and Betty D. (McHenry) Riedel. He married Sherry J. Burson on Sept. 18, 1993, in South Bend. She survives with 3 daughters, Jonelle (Richard Sequeira) Riedel, Cara (Jim) Lupa and Amy Riedel; a son, Marcus (Jill) Riedel, all of South Bend; stepson, Derin Keim of Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Angela Lirette of Houma, LA; 9 grandchildren, 8 great­grandchildren; a sister, Marcia Riedel Cramer of Niles, MI; and a sister­in­law, Priscilla Riedel of St. Joseph, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Judith Riedel, and a brother, David Riedel. Dennis graduated from John Adams High School in 1965 and was the manager in the Men's department at Value City Dept. Store. He previously worked for J.C. Penney Co. South Bend for 22 years, and Erica's Needlecraft Store. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was very active at the Zion United Church of Christ where he was an Elder and a member of the choir. In his youth, he achieved the Eagle Scout award and as an adult served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for Troop 505. He also was a member of the Michiana Male Chorus and loved animals, especially Pokey, Rusty, and Smokey. He loved antiquing, collecting Snoopy, and Genealogy. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Visitation for Dennis will be from 10 am until noon on Tuesday, Aug. 2nd, at the Faith United Methodist Church. Services will begin at noon, with Rev. John Hogsett officiating. Interment will be at McClintic Cemetery, Syracuse. Memorials may be given to Faith UM Church or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
