SOUTH BEND - Cheryl Lynn Schwartz, 69, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2017. She was born at Clarkston Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on December 16, 1947, to Benjamin and Rose L. Schwartz (Zubkoff). The family eventually moved to South Bend, Indiana, where she graduated from John Adams High in 1965. She first attended Indiana University but transferred in 1966 to St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and completed her degree in BioChemistry in 1972. She earned a master's degree in industrial technology with a focus in occupational safety.

She worked at Miles Laboratories while she was studying her degree in the research department. After Miles Labs, she moved to Chicago to work as a Bio-Chemist/Enzymologist. She leveraged her skills and abilities to further her career in research, and eventually moved to Burlington, NC. At one point she helped create the critical components for testing illegal drugs in the saliva of individuals. She retired from research, obtained a Master's in Industrial Technology (Focus in Occupational Safety) from East Carolina University in 2005 and then taught part-time in the Alamance School District.

Cheryl met the love of her life, John D. Gaddy, in 1995, and married him on Oct 11, 1998. He survives her. They both enjoyed breeding Corgis and going to dog shows. They also loved to cook.

Cheryl was dedicated to the Girl Scouts her entire life. She was a troop leader and held various positions in North Carolina's organization.

Cheryl's father passed away on Dec 30, 2015. She is survived by her 93-year-old mother, Rose, of Maumelle, Arkansas; her sister, Sandy Schwartz of Oakton, VA; her brother, Gordon (Roxana) Schwartz; and nieces: Hannah and Juliana of Orange Park, Florida; many cousins; and many adopted daughters and friends from the Girl Scouts.

Services will be held Wednesday, Oct 4, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, followed by burial at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery in Mishawaka, St Joseph County, Indiana, Rabbi Meir Bulman officiating.
