Christopher Holdrege Wilson, 56, of Bend, Ore., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died at 2:22 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Indiana State Road 224 east of Huntington, Ind.

Chris was born April 27, 1947, in Rochester, Minn., to James M. and Marjorie (Hollister) Wilson of South Bend, and lived in South Bend until 1979. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie H. Wilson of South Bend; a sister, Nancy (Richard) Saunders of South Bend; a brother, James "Sandy" Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; and five nieces and nephews.

Chris graduated from John Adams High School in 1965, where he served as senior class president. He became an Eagle Scout with Troop 523 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. He was a lifelong musician and music teacher. He studied flute under Mr. Opperman in South Bend. He received his BA in both the Music Conservatory and the Liberal Arts School at Oberlin College in 1969, being the only student to be a member of both. After graduating from Oberlin he joined the Peace Corps, where he taught English in Ksar-es-Souk in southeast Morocco from 1969 to 1971. He taught at Stanley Clark School in South Bend for several years. He received his MA from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and was a member of the Cache Valley Symphony in Logan. He studied classical guitar as a pupil of Christopher Parkening and taught private classical guitar in Bend, where he moved in 1979, for over 20 years. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Bend.

The Wilson family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the social hall of First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place at the Michiana Crematory, South Bend.
