July 8, 1933 - Sept. 3, 2016

SOUTH BEND - A good life, well-lived, with many long and deep friendships.

Jack S. Troeger was born in South Bend, Indiana, on July 8, 1933, to Earl and Esther Troeger. Jack attended McKinley and John Adams High School, and lettered in football, basketball and track. He graduated with a business degree from Indiana University, where Jack was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji) fraternity and served in the Air Force ROTC. At college he and Janet Shulmier, also from South Bend, began dating; they married on June 12, 1954, before Jack's senior year, and have been inseparable. While serving in the Air Force after college, Jack and Janet were posted in Texas, in Florida for flight training, and in San Bernardino, California. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force as a captain, Jack returned to South Bend, Indiana, to join Andrew Troeger & Co., Inc., the family sheet metal contracting business founded by his grandfather, and was a member of SMACNA. Jack was proud of the projects they completed throughout the area and enjoyed working with their many employees and customers. Following retirement, Jack and Janet wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida. Jack especially enjoyed time spent with his family and Birch Lake, Michigan, was a center of summer activities for many years. Jack was a water skier and a snow skier, sailed Snipe class sailboats and catamaran, served as Commodore of the BLYC, was a member of Morris Park Country Club for years, and played handball, tennis and golf. Jack and Janet took their first trip out of the United States when they were in their 50s, and enjoyed their trips to Europe and cruises after that. Jack is survived by his wife Janet, their three children, Scott (Holly) Tim (Susan) and Steve (Jacque), nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Tara, James, Amy, Ross, Sam, Victoria (Tory), Neil and Daniel, four great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Brady, Chase, Weston, and by his brothers, Earl, Jr., and Dr. Thomas (Pat) Troeger. Jack will live on in our memories and will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. until time of services.
