John J Jaffee served as a Sergeant & Ball Turret Gunner on B-24H "Bumbs Away" #42-7494, 704th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in St. Joseph County, Indiana prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 2, 1942 at Camp Perry, Lacarne, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Messenger and also as Single, without dependents.
John was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, after taking off from Bungay, England, was hit by German ground Anti-Aircraft fire and crashed during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
His remains were not recovered.
