SOUTH BEND - Miriam Z. Hathaway, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017.

She was born on July 19, 1924, to the late Chester and Anna (Winand) Los in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, James and William Hathaway, and a sister, Henrietta Kuharic.

Miriam graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend. She was very proud of her service in the U.S. Army, where she belonged to the Women's Army Corps (WAC), during both World War II and the Korean War. Miriam had retired from Meals on Wheels, where she had worked as a Volunteer Coordinator for almost 30 years.

Miriam is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Blake) Vedder of South Bend, IN, Anne (Daniel) Dittmer of Michigan City, IN; a son, Fred Hathaway of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Abigail (Ryan) Kaiser, Evan Smith, Jessica Dittmer, Danielle Dittmer and Andrew Dittmer; along with four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, A.T. Los of Tiverton, RI, and Chester Los of Edwardsburg, MI.

There will be no services. Private burial will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later date.

Our mother is not gone, for we see her every day in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
