In Memory

Donna E. (Weil) Grauel
May 06, 1924 ~ December 28, 2025
Donna's journey began in the heart of South Bend, where she grew up surrounded by the love and guidance of her parents. Her formative years were filled with the joys of childhood and the forging of lifelong friendships. Donna was a member of the first graduating Class of 1942 at John Adams High School. After completing her education, Donna worked for Bendix Hospital as a lab technician where she met her loving husband William. Later, she embarked on a fulfilling career as an audiologist, dedicating over two decades to helping others communicate and connect with the world around them.
In her personal life, Donna found love and companionship with her late husband, William “Blackie” Grauel. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and the pitter-patter of little feet. Donna's legacy is carried on by her three devoted sons, Craig (Shirley) Grauel of South Bend, Gary (Vicki) Grauel of South Bend, and Tim (Chris) Grauel of Granger. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and she instilled in her children the values of kindness, perseverance, and integrity. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Weil.
Donna's love story didn't end with her children; it continued to flourish with the arrival of her nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Each new addition brought her immense joy and pride, and she relished in the role of matriarch, sharing stories, wisdom, and countless hugs.
Beyond her family, Donna was an active member of the South Bend Turners Ladies Auxiliary, where she formed lasting bonds and contributed to the vitality of the organization. Her competitive spirit shone brightly as she engaged in friendly games of bridge, euchre, and bowling, always with a twinkle in her eye and a ready smile.
