Jerry Allen Alford

SOUTH BEND - On the afternoon of Saturday, April 28, 2018, Jerry Allen Alford, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at the age of 78 years.

Jerry's life began on January 4, 1940, in Dallas, Texas when he was born to Clyde and Pauline (Clark) Alford.

In 1948, coming from Dallas, Texas the family relocated to South Bend, Indiana. Jerry attended the South Bend public schools and graduated from John Adams High School in 1958. He also received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Indiana University South Bend.

Jerry and Dorothy Hunt were united in wedlock in Cassopolis, Michigan on October 5, 1961 and to their union three sons were born.

He was a retired engineer from Honeywell in St. Joseph, Michigan where he was employed as Plant Manager. After his retirement, Jerry and his wife moved to Indianapolis and there he was a member of Nehemiah Bible Church where he served as an Elder for three years. In addition, he did a great deal of volunteer work at the Nehemiah Food and Clothing Pantry. He loved working in the yard, golfing, and was an avid fan of the Pacers. Jerry's greatest passion was his family; he dearly loved his sons and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Jerry is survived by a devoted family that includes his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Adrian (Chona) Alford of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry (Paula) Alford of Carmel, Indiana, and Damon (Renee) Alford of Indianapolis, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Alitha, Mark, Natasha, Tyler Marie, Kellyn, Gabrielle, Maxwell, Damon II, and Dayson; siblings, Barbara Sue Harrison and Paul (Veronica) Alford; and a brother-in-law, John Turner, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death along with his parents was a sister, Gloria Ann Turner.

Services for Mr. Jerry Allen Alford will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Pentecostal Cathedral Church, 1025 Western Avenue, South Bend. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
