Jerry Johnston - Class Of 1958

Jerry Johnston

Gerald "Jerry" Alfred Johnston, 80, passed from this life on May 5, 2020. Born in Niles, Michigan on July 24, 1939 to Walter and Margaret Johnston. The youngest of four children, sister June, brothers William "Bill", and Gerald F Johnston. Jerry was a graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana. He served proudly in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Calcaterra as a EN3 Engineman. He married his high school sweetheart Gloria Dean Austin, together they had three boys Douglas, Daniel and Darren.

Jerry worked in the welding industry his entire life after serving in the Navy. He began as a welding sales representative for Mittler Supply in South Bend. The family moved to Bethel Park, PA  where he was the General Manager of Washington Welding Supply. As years passed he missed the sales aspect so moved the family to Tulsa, Oklahoma as an area district salesman with Miller Electric & ITW, later obtaining the North Dallas/Ft. Worth market until his retirement. Jerry was always on the go dawn to dusk, running to Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart for some new house project, or just wanting to jump in the car and drive somewhere.  His love for travel and adventure always took him somewhere different.  He was most fond of the summer family vacations visiting new states or whatever way the wind blew us. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Gloria, both parents, sister June, and brother Gerald F.

Jerry is survived by his three children, Douglas and his wife Sue of Trophy Club TX, Daniel and his wife Shelly, of Owasso OK, and Darren and Shelly of Roanoke, TX.  He left behind a legacy of 5 grandchildren, Laura, Lauren, Stuart, Brooke and Stephen.  Other survivor is his remaining brother William and his wife Sandy of Grand Ledge, MI with their children and grandchildren.

On Friday, May 28, 2021 at 2:30 pm, Jerry will be laid to rest with Military Honors next to his wife Gloria at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.  Phone: (214) 467-3374.

The family will host a "Celebration of Life" afterwards at Douglas’s home.
