Frederick Roland “Fred” Stave

June 1, 1940 - July 3, 2018

PATRIOT, IN - Mr. Frederick Roland “Fred” Stave, 78, of Patriot, IN, died Tues., July 3, 2018 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Fred was born on June 1, 1940 in South Bend, IN to German immigrant parents, Fred and Paula (Schifferdecker) Stave. Fred met his high school sweetheart, Sondra Haack during his senior year at John Adams High School in South Bend, where he graduated in 1958.

After proposing to Sondra he went off to Purdue University, where he received his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1962. His esteemed 25-year career began at RCA working at Sherman Drive and Rockville Road plants, as well as Princeton Labs in New Jersey, being awarded the prestigious David Sarnoff Award in 1981 for Outstanding Technical Achievement for his groundbreaking work on RCA's Video Disc Player.

He later co-founded the Indianapolis-based surgical instruments start-up company, NOETIX, Inc. and after 8 years left to become Director of Advanced Technology Development at Whirlpool Corporation for 10 years, relocating to St. Joe, MI heading up operations in Northern Italy and San Paulo, Brazil.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra Sue (Haack) Stave of Patriot, IN; son, Eric (Cindy) Stave of Rescue, CA; daughter, Cheryl Stave of Greenfield, IN; stepson, Dwayne Platz of El Segundo, CA; stepdaughter, Audra Platz of Manhattan Beach, CA; grandchildren, Erica & Andrew Stave, Hannah Dewey, & Georgia Hughes, & an abundance of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life is Sat., Aug, 18, at 11a.m., at Hoosier Theater, 209 Ferry St., Vevay, IN 47043, with visitation from 10-11a.m., and reception in the Jack Sullivan Senior Center.
