Dewey R McFarland - Class Of 1970

Dewey R McFarland

October 31, 2020, Dewey R. McFarland passed away from this life at 4:30 P.M. in his Mishawaka home.

He was born February 28, 1952 to Joseph and Willadene (Kesler) McFarland who preceded him in death along with two sisters, Cathlene Wolfe and Joy Alexander. 

On June 14, 1973 Dewey married Rebecca (Julian) who survives along with a son, Joseph R. (Tracy) McFarland of Decauter, MI and a daughter, Jennifer L. McFarland of Mishawaka. He is also survived by grandchildren: Kyle (Amanda) Kindley, Kaitlynne (Vinny Trozzy) McFarland, Joseph McFarland and Nevaeh McFarland; step grandchildren: Sean and Ariel Boyer; recent additions, great-granddaughters Paisley Kindley and Violet Trozzy; two sisters: Georgia Glover and Pat Schroeder; one brother : Robert (Karen) McFarland; along with many nieces and nephews. 

Dewey comes from a long line of painters. His grandfather painted for Rose Kennedy; his father painted the Notre Dame Golden Dome and Dewey painted for Ophra Winfrey. 

After painting for area union companies, he worked for Life Ambulance as an EMT driver and manager while still painting. With long time friend, Ken Sedam, he started his own partnership, Interstate Decorating Service, LLC. It closed in 2003, he then painted residential homes and businesses. In 2006, he suffered a traumatic brain injury and learned he had lung cancer. The cancer returned two more times and Dewey lost the battle.    

Dewey loved to fish and many happy memories were made when the family spent times camping in a RV or later  vacationing at Huyck Lake in Marcellus, MI. 

Nothing made Dewey happier than family. He would spend many hours having coffee with his in laws, Bob and Maxine Julian, Linda Dahan, Chris Romine and Jay Julian.        

Providing for his family was all he ever wanted.

Duke, you were a wonderful friend, husband, father and brother. You were my whole life and I love you so dearly. You are missed already but I know you are happy and at last in peace in Heaven with God, Jesus and the family and friends who have gone before. Rejoice in the glory until I see you again, Your loving wife Becky.

A memorial service for Dewey will be held Saturday, November 7  at 3:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home-Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. main Street, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family for 1:00 - 3:00 PM before the service.
